#396-Audi Q5 'Identity Theft' commercials.

Audi released two commercial videos of it's new Q5. The first one is centered around a lady who walks to supposedly her Lexus RX, but it doesn't open, then she sees another similar one, walks to it, it doesn't open, and so on until she arrives somewhere where the whole carpark is filled with the same colour Lexus RX. Then a black Audi Q5 drives out of nowhere and passes her.

The second one are schoolchildren who have just been released from classes and runs out to find all the same Lexus RXs parked in front of each other. Then a boy runs out to his dad who arrives in a black Q5.

I find it quite interesting and I wonder how much Audi spent on renting/buying all those Lexus RXs? Haha.

I first bought a 8GB 4th-gen iPod nano in orange on the 23rd of December last year. It was to replace my 2 year old black 8GB 2nd-gen iPod nano. It is truly an awesome iPod. I even brought it to England with me. After 2 months of using it, on the 25th of February this year, I got it replaced at the iPod Bar at the Regent Street Apple Store because there was no sound coming out of the earphone jack. Last Thursday, 30th of April, I got it replaced AGAIN because the battery life on it was terrible. It would only last for less than a day or so. Even I have replaced it twice, I still like it so much! All three of them carried the same name which is AnnaLynne Alexandra.

My current favourite band is THE SATURDAYS!!! They are sooooooo awweesoomme!!!! I have their entire album on my iTunes library and I listen to all their songs at least once every day. And I was happy when I found out that they were having a concert in June! It is on the 24th of June 2009, 5 days before I go back to Malaysia. So I bought the concert ticket and it cost me GBP24.75 in total.

It came with a voucher for wine which I probably won't use because I don't drink.

I was heading to Sainsbury's last Monday to do some shopping and I realised I got onto the correct Tube line heading towards the wrong direction. So I got off at Turnham Green just before the District Line split into 2 directions and waited for the correct Tube. As I had nothing to do apart from waiting for the Tube, I snapped some photos of the dark skies that were over the Tube platforms.

About a month ago, I went to Amaravati which is a Theravada Buddhist Monastery which is located in Great Gaddesden, somewhere near Hemel Hempstead, which is about 1/2 hour northwest of London. Last Saturday, my host treated me and my housemates to dinner at The Hard Rock Cafe London. I liked the atmosphere and the food, but not the music. Rock music isn't my type. But, the food was good like I said, and for dessert I didn't take any food, instead I took a drink, and I had the option of buying the drink with a souvenir glass. I chose a non-alcoholic drink called Orange Crush and it came in a margarita glass. So, here is my souvenir margarita glass from Hard Rock Cafe London. And thanks to my host for getting me the glass!

Some of you might know I have a P1i and that I am a very huge fan of Sony Ericssons. My P1i is nearly dead soon, the phone is slow, the phone sometimes hangs, the phone can turn off on it's own and the bodywork is coming off. So, I thought why don't I go shopping for a new phone. I have to get a Pay As You Go (prepaid), as I'm not 18 yet. I went to Carphone Warehouse and I immediately wanted this phone as it was cheap, it is a Sony Ericsson, and it suited my needs until I'm able to get a new and better phone in October, when I turn 18. This Sony Ericsson J132 is the cheapest Sony Ericsson available on the market and it is pretty basic. It is the only other Sony Ericsson (apart from the X1), to have a Mini-USB connector for charging and it is only one of three Sony Ericssons to have the 3.5mm jack built-in. It has a 1.5inch colour screen, FM radio, up to 450hrs of standby time, a torchlight, and an alarm clock. It is a dualband phone.

I got this phone on Virgin Mobile as it was the cheapest deal available, and it only cost me £5.00 for the phone and another £10.00 for the SIM Pack, so in total, the whole package was £15.00! What a deal! The SIM pack comes with 300 free text and £10.21 credit on the card. I wouldn't have gotten a phone if I hadn't saw this phone and the deal it was coming with.

Here are steps on how to identify whether a car is a Hertz rental car from the UK or not.

First of all, it looks like a normal car you can find anywhere in the UK.

However, the plates must be recent, currently, should be 08, 58 and 09 plates. And to some extent, maybe a few 57 plate cars.

Then there will be this sticker on the rear quarter window or D-pillar of the car.

And lastly, the roadtax will be in a yellow holder.

Time flies, eh? What started out as "This Is My Life Bitch", http://thisismylifebitchh.blogspot.com and went on to become "Alex Khoo's Blog", http://callmealexkhoo.blogspot.com and what is now known as www.alexkhoo.net in both URL and Blog Name is now one year old! I started my blog last year on the 19th of April and although I know it's a few days later (today's the 23rd), I was busy. I also started my blog just for fun after reading my most influential blogger, Nicholas Chan, and again, I can't believe it's a year old already! The custom domain name/URL isn't a year old yet, having only gotten it in November last year, but it's the whole blog and it's contents which count. Now it's a year old, I hope the content has improved since I first started and it's mostly photos and videos on my blog, not many personal thoughts (I'm not that kind of person who pours his/her heart out on his/her blog.

My friend from college has a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. At first, I didn't like the phone at all! But after playing with it for 15 minutes or so, I have liked it. But still, I wouldn't have it as a phone, just because I don't really prefer the Nokia S60 interface as well as Nokia phones in general. Back to the 5800, I asked my friend whether I could take some photos of it and he said yea, so I went and took some photos of it.

The screen looks good. Quite clear and very responsive, however, the auto-rotate is quite annoying.

The right side of the phone with the Camera button, Lock switch and the Volume Up/Down button.

The battery is quite big at 1320mAh, it's the Nokia BL-5J battery.

Audi and BMW are two of my most favourite car brands. BMW especially!
Recently, Audi had placed an A4 advertisement on Santa Monica Boulevard in California, saying "Your move, BMW" and shows a picture of the B8 Audi A4.
BMW responded by erecting a billboard on the opposite side of the road showing the new E93 BMW M3 Coupe with the words "Checkmate".

Sony Ericsson 'Idou' (pronounced as 'I Do', but I tend to call it 'E-Dough'), is a new phone from Sony Ericsson which is due to land in markets around October of this year. This phone was launched at Mobile World Congress 2009 (MWC 2009) in Barcelona last February. It is part of a new group of Sony Ericsson phones labelled under the 'Entertainment Unlimited' category. 'Entertainment Unlimited' is sort of like a mix between the Walkman category and the Cybershot category. This category promises to bring the best of both categories previously mentioned into one and the possibility of adding some gaming experience on top of that.

The 'Idou' is a true iPhone rival to me. And from what I observe from the specsheet, photos and videos provided on the internet, I can say it is much better than an iPhone. Some spec of the 'Idou';

-12.1mps camera with an advanced array of camera features, including Xenon flash, Smile Shutter, and Face Detection.
-3.5-inch 16:9 wide full touchscreen display
-Wi-Fi
-GPS
-3G forward facing video camera
-Accelerometer
-Bluetooth

The OS/UI on this phone is sort of like a mix between the Symbian S60, the Symbian UIQ and Sony Ericsson's Walkman Media menu system. I'm not particularly a fan of the S60 interface, but it should do fine for this phone.

#351-Our Malaysian Embassy in London damn rich laaa...

What you see here is the parking garage for the Malaysian Embassy in London, United Kingdom. It is at the back street(ow buey lor) behind the embassy. The 206 infront means Malaysia and the D is diplomatic and the last 3 numbers are random.

Why do they have a Porsche as an embassy car??? Their whole fleet also consists of a few Mercedes-Benz E200Ks, Mercedes-Benz Vianos' (the van), a Mercedes-Benz S350L as the official embassy car (with a plate number 1M, which probably have costed about £50,000), a few BMWs here and there, and a 1997 Honda Civic as far as I know.

And the Malaysian government back home is complaining that the politicians change their Proton Perdanas into Mercedes-Benz E200Ks or Toyota Camrys. Why??

I've got some new goodies from Sony too! Just ordered them today and will probably take some time to arrive.

The macro lens will be for the Sony a900 of course. The Ps3 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue game is my dream come true!

The PSP is for on-the-go games, the TV is for the PS3, the 8GB Pro memory card is for the PSP and the 8GB CompactFlash card is for the a900, the mini-laptop is for blogging on-the-go and the camcorder is for greater and better YouTube videos.

The laptop and it's accessories. I wanted a Windows machine for some college work so here is the one I chose.

All this hype about me getting new cars, new gadgets won't end just like that. In the midst of all this, I also got myself a new £6,500,000 home in Bristol Gardens, SW15. Mmmhmm. The house is awesome, went to have a look at it today and didn't manage to get any photos because my camera battery died. Will post more pictures when I actually get my camera charged up and I go back to my new house again. There are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

I know it's a lot of money, but I've always liked Apple since I got to know more about the brand. Currently I got my MacBook Pro, 2nd-gen 8GB iPod nano, 4th-gen 8GB iPod nano and a 2nd-gen 1GB iPod shuffle. Those are my main Apple gadgets (I also have like iWork, Apple Keyboard and such, but those are accessories). So, I've decided to expand my Apple collection by buying a few more gadgets totalling to a very fabulous amount of £18,899.66. Yea!

I know I have three iPods, but I've always wanted an iPod classic. The shape, the size, the capacity just captures my eye. So I got it!
I also got an iPhone 16GB (white) to replace my ageing phones. Mmhmm. I now have the ultimate phone! And I also got the dock to accompany it.
The beats by dr. dre headphones is my dream pair of headphones and since I was shopping at the Online Apple Store, I decided to get it.

I got an Apple TV for my room here and the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display to use the Apple TV with.
Ohh, the Mac Pro, the ultimate Mac machine! I also got that as a desktop, using my MBP as a desktop computer just feels weird. The 2 30" Apple HD Cinema Displays are for the Mac Pro.

All this here are extra accessories for the Mac Pro.

The stuff that I just ordered should arrive in the next few days. Stay tuned for them unboxings and such!

#346-I've bought a few cars!

Hello guys, it may seem so soon, but you know I just moved to London in January.
But I needed a car, cause the London transport system is so shitty!
The Tube often gets delayed or stuck in the middle of the tracks for no apparent reason.
The bus is better, but it's still crowded during the times I go and come back from college.
So I thought, the best way is to get a car.

Oh yea, the reason you see it's in the configurator page, the Bugatti will take weeks to build, so I don't have an actual picture of the car until it is finished.
Oh and this is not the only car I bought, you don't expect me to drive my £1,000,000 car to my local Sainsbury's or Ikea and expect to stuff it with my groceries, do you?

Just a rough idea of the 'shopping car' I bought. Looks nice, no?

And the price doesn't look that bad, eh?

I also need to wait a few weeks before I get this car from Germany, am hoping for factory collection, but BMW Park Lane says not possible. Awww.... :-(
And I also got a third car for offroading, because I wouldn't want to take a Bugatti or an M5 offroading right? They both have low ground clearance. I do not want to take the risk of scratching the undercarriage of the car.

Yep, it's an Audi Q7 decked out in about £25,000 worth of options. Good stuff. Was going to go for a Land Rover, but Land Rovers are too common on London streets.
Oh and I also got a lovely Honda CR-V cause I love that car so much!! And also, when I feel that I need to drive a normal, but awesome car.

And lastly I got a Volvo S80 when I want to use a car with a boot.

Uh huh..Uh huh...Super cool, eh? I burnt out my debit card on these purchases. Sigh.......
When all the cars come in the next week or in a couple of weeks time I'll take pictures and post them up here.

On Sunday, me, my brother and his friends went to Waterloo to watch Watchmen at the IMAX theatre. The movie was ok actually. Before that, both of us met his friends at a restaurant called Cafe Rouge for dinner which is over the other side of the Thames River in Holborn. So after parking at a car park near the theatre, we took our time to walk across the Waterloo Bridge to the restaurant and take pictures along the way.

After dinner, all of us headed back to the bridge to cross it again to go back to Waterloo to get to the IMAX theatre. Sorry if the pictures are a bit blurry, but I kinda like how the pictures turned out.

#334-Subjects I'm Taking.

As most of you might have known by now, I'm the London currently studying for my A-Levels. In short, I'm in college. Davies Laing and Dick college to be exact. I don't think I have mentioned about this before, but I just wanted to give an idea of what subjects I'm taking for my A-Levels.

Economics

By far, I like this subject the most. I like how the way it works and the concepts and such. I am taught by a guy with the name of Dave Dineen. Nice-typical-British-accent guy. I am taking Units 1 and 2 for the AS-Level, which is the first year, and Units 3 and 4 for the A2-Level, which is the second and final year.

Core Mathematics

As you know, I only like Modern Maths and not Add Maths. I would say this Core Maths is sort of like a combination between those 2 subjects. I kinda enjoy it too as I've come to learn the terms, equations, how to do it, and etc. etc. The teacher who is teaching me is called Richard Milner. Nice guy too! There are 6 modules in this subject, but I'm only taking 4 modules because I've combined this subject with Mechanics. So I'm taking C1, C2, C3 and C4.

Mechanics

I'm taking Mechanics as a supplementary to Core Maths. I can take Mechanics on it's own, but I don't really like Mechanics and I'm already taking Statistics (another Maths subject) on it's own and I don't want to take to get to many A-Levels in Maths. So instead of 6 Mechanics modules, I'm only taking 2 which is M1 and M2. My teacher is called David Quinn.

Statistics

I'm not really taking the exams this summer, because Statistics for A-Levels is actually a one year programme. I'm only taking the classes now to try and absorb in as many details as possible before actually starting the course next semester. I find it hard, but hopefully I can get along with it. Teachers name is Mojgan Esfahani.

Sociology

Purely crap subject, but I'm taking it for the sake of getting an extra credit for A-Levels. I find it both interesting and boring. Michelle Tyler is the name of my Sociology teacher.

On the 11th of July 2008, the iPhone 3G was released to the public for sale initially in some countries and later on to more countries in the world. Today (the 20th of March 2009) will see the release of the iPhone 3G in Malaysia. I'm not really sure what the situation is like in Malaysia now, as in whether anyone will be waiting outside a Maxis or Apple Premium Reseller Store waiting to buy it or not. But I know it will be launched today, as I got an e-mail from my local Premium Reseller, Switch about it. For the tariffs of the iPhone in Malaysia, I made a comparison between the one in Malaysia and the one in the UK in the previous post

#332-iPhone 3G tariffs in UK vs. Malaysia.

Alas, the iPhone 3G has finally landed on Malaysian shores, almost a year after it's release in July 2008. It's no point for me getting it in Malaysia, because here in the UK, the iPhone is much much cheaper and the price plans are better. But anyways, I just wanted to tell my readers about the iPhone 3G in Malaysia.

A brief insight into the UK pricing first. In the UK, the iPhone is available on the O2 network only and all the iPhone on contracts have 18-month plans. There are four plans to choose from which is;

1.) £30 (RM159.60) a month for 18-months.

The iPhone 8GB is £99 (RM526.68) and the 16GB goes for £159 (RM845.88).
For that price, you get 75 minutes and 125 texts, unlimited data and Wi-Fi, visual voicemail and reduced roaming rates.

2.) £35 (RM186.20) a month for 18-months.

The whole package is the same as the £30/month, just that one gets 600 minutes and 500 texts.

3.) £45 (RM239.40) a month for 18-months.

In this plan, the iPhone 8GB is FREE, and one is to pay £59 (RM313.88) for the 16GB.
You get 1200 minutes and 500 texts, unlimited data and Wi-Fi, visual voicemail and reduced roaming rates.

4.) £75 (RM399.00) a month for 18-months.

This plan sees both the 8GB and 16GB iPhones free, and the only other difference from the £35/month and £45/month plans is the 3000 minutes talktime. The rest is the same.

Alternatively in the UK, you can also get the iPhone on Pay & Go which to Malaysians is called pre-paid.

The 8GB retails for £342.50 (RM1822.10) and the 16GB retails for £391.45 (RM2082.51) and you get unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12-months of the iPhone purchase.

In Malaysia, the iPhone is available on the Maxis network in 6-month, 12-month and 24-month contract plans which are named Value Plus Plans, iValue Plans 12-months and iValue Plans 24-months respectively. In each contract plans, the are four categories to choose from.

Let's start with the 6-month contract plans or called the Value Plus Plans;

In all 6-month contract plans, the iPhone 8GB retails for RM2540 (£477.44) and the 16GB for RM2960 (£556.39) and one will get 500MB of data for the entire contract period.

1.) Value Plus 80

One pays RM80 (£15.04)/month for 6-months, 12 sens a minute for voice calls from Maxis-to-Maxis numbers and 15 sens a minute for voice calls from Maxis-to-non Maxis numbers.

2.) Value Plus 150

It is RM150 (£28.20)/month for 6-months, 10sens/minute for voice calls from Maxis-to-Maxis numbers and 12sens/minute for voice calls from Maxis-to-non Maxis numbers.

3.) Value Plus 250

It costs RM250 (£46.99)/month and it's 10sens/minute for all voice calls to mobile numbers, whether it's Maxis or not.

4.) Value Plus 500

It's the same 10sens/minute for all voice calls to mobile numbers regardless of network and one is to pay RM500 (£93.99)/month.

On to the iValue 12-month contract plans. There are four plans, iValue 1 to 4.

1.) iValue 1

It is RM100 (£18.80)/month, the iPhone 8GB costs RM1900 (£357.14), the 16GB RM2290 (£430.45), one will have 333 minutes, additional 15sens/minute for a call if exceeded 333 minutes, 500MB of data and it's 0.5sen/KB if the data usage exceeds 500MB. The texts are 10sens/text. A person also needs to pay RM200 (£37.59) in advance.

2.) iValue 2

It is RM155 (£29.14)/month, the iPhone 8GB retails for RM1780 (£334.59), the iPhone 16GB retails for RM2160 (£406.02). This plan gets you 667 minutes/month with an additional charge of 12sens/min if the limit is exceeded. The texts are 10sens/text. One gets 1GB of data/month, and will have to pay 0.5sen/KB for additional data. And the advance payment is RM200 (£37.59).

3.) iValue 3

It monthly commitment is RM250 (£46.99). The 8GB is RM1490 (£280.08) and the 16GB is RM1870 (£351.50). 1500 minutes a month, 10sens/text, 2GB of data a month, 10sens/minutes for additional calls out of the 1500 minutes, and 0.5sen/KB for additional data usage. One has to pay RM500 (£93.98) in advance.

4.) iValue 4

The price is RM375 (£70.49)/month, the 8GB costs RM1080 (£203.01) and the 16GB RM1470 (£276.32). One gets 2500 minutes, 10sen/text, and 3GB a month for data in this plan. The cost for additional minutes and data is the same as iValues 1, 2 and 3. RM1000 (£187.97) is the amount to pay for the advance payment.

iValue 24-month contract plans is the longest plan for the iPhone in Malaysia.

For all iValue 24-month plans, iValue 1-4, the number of minutes, the amount of data, the cost of additional minutes and data, and the price of a text is the same as the iValue 1-4 on 12-month plans. The monthly commitment prices are also the same.

The only differences are;

1.) iValue 1

iPhone 8GB - RM1510 (£283.83)
iPhone 16GB - RM 1890 (£355.26)
Advanced payment - RM 400 (£75.19)

2.) iValue 2

iPhone 8GB - RM1260 (£236.84)
iPhone 16GB - RM1640 (£308.27)
Advanced payment - RM620 (£116.54)

3.) iValue 3

iPhone 8GB - RM680 (£127.82)
iPhone 16GB - RM1060 (£199.25)
Advanced payment - RM1250 (£234.96)

4.) iValue 4

iPhone 8GB is free.
iPhone 16GB - RM260 (£48.87)
Advanced payment - RM2000 (£375.94)

All I can summarise from what you can see above is, the iPhone in the UK is more value-for-money than the one which will be going on sale in Malaysia today.

#331-3rd-gen iPod shuffle 4GB review.

I bought the new iPod shuffle on Friday and used it for a little while, then I returned it yesterday. I thought I would like it in the first place, but it turned out that I didn't really like it. Here's a short review of the device.

Pros:
-Box has a nice cute design.
-The size is pretty small, considering there's 4GB in the device.
-VoiceOver is pretty cool.
-The USB cable is pretty interesting.

Cons:
-No play/pause, volume control, forward/previous buttons on the device itself, it's all the earphones.
-You can only use the earphones provided in the box.
-It's so tiny, you tend to lose it in the long run.
-The shiny metal back may scratch easily.

My final verdict:
I'd give it a 5/10.

When I first got it at the store.
